IKEA Tapped North American Roofing to Install Nearly Two Million Square Feet of Roofing and Solar Panels on Distribution Center Roof
Asheville, N.C. (May 10, 2012) – Asheville, N.C. based North American Roofing today announced it has commenced installation of the third largest solar roofing project in North America. More than 1.7 million square feet of roofing and 730,000 square feet of solar laminate panels will be installed on the IKEA distribution center located in Perryville, Md. Three North American Roofing crews will complete the re-roofing and solar project in approximately 5 months.
“Working with a household name like IKEA is exciting for us. When complete, the solar roof will add substantially more energy to the power grid than the distribution center will pull from the grid,” said Brian Verble, CEO of North American Roofing. “IKEA sees the value and benefit of installing a solar roof and is a driving force behind solar innovation as we continue to move toward alternative energy sources. With this project, they are definitely making a statement that will certainly get the attention of their peers.”
The solar project will be the largest in North American Roofing’s history, and when complete, the 34,000+ solar laminate panels will generate and add 4.9 megawatts to the power grid. While several IKEA facilities in the U.S. employ solar roofing, the massive size and scope of the project, equivalent to almost 36 football fields, underscores IKEA’s commitment to sustainability.

We did it again! Our dedication to customer service and quality installation netted us two of GAF’s Master Select Awards, the “Installation Excellence” award and the “System Protection Excellence” award.
Meeting GAF’s standards isn’t an easy task. Less than 2% of all roofing companies in the United States meet the stringent criteria. GAF is the largest manufacturer of roofing materials in the nation, producing single-ply, built-up roofing, modified bitumen roofing, insulation and other specialty roofing materials.
Jim Slauson, GAF’s VP of Certified Contractor Programs, heaped on the praise, “This achievement proves that you (North American Roofing) are truly ‘the best of the best’ and that you are committed to quality, service and training.”
Each award signifies the highest-level of achievement in its class. The “Installation Excellence” award recognizes superiority in roof installation practices. Our crews are highly trained craftsmen who take pride in every project. GAF reports that North American Roofing sailed through 2011 with no incident reports or customer complaints, which puts us at the top of GAF’s short list of high-quality roofing companies. We don’t often toot our own horn, but a record this clean we just can’t keep quiet.
GAF’s second award, the “System Protection Excellence” award, recognizes North American Roofing’s commitment to helping customers fully understand their roofing options so they can make the roofing choices that are best for them.
